Agent's answer is created and then deleted immediatly

In many cases, when testing my agent in Copilot Studio, I see that a correct answer is built from the results of the AI Search knowledge source—but then it is suddenly deleted by the agent itself and the escalation topic is called up.

Why is this happening? How can it be prevented?

    Hi @Konrad,

this usualy happens when Generative Answers ends up returning “no final response”, so Copilot Studio routes the conversation to the System Fallback topic, which (by default) redirects to the Escalate system topic.

Two reasons why this can happend:

    • Content moderation can filter the generated content, when that happens, the node may return nothing and doesn’t tell you it was moderated.

    • If no topic/generative answer is accepted, Copilot Studio uses the Fallback system topic (and your Fallback can trigger Escalation).

try this to prevent it (supported options):

    1. In the Generative Answers node properties, try lowering the content moderation level (lower = more answers; higher = stricter filtering). (i recomend trying this first

    2. Connect the agent to Application Insights to confirm if moderation/filtering is happening (moderation events are logged there).

    3. Review Topics → System → Fallback and remove/adjust the redirect to Escalate, so it doesn’t escalate immediately when an answer isn’t returned.

    Best regards,

    Valantis

I like what @Valantis suggested. If you are unsure of the fallback topic is being called, go to your topics and click on the system tab, which is where it will be listed. I modified what is returned here in my agent so it is more specific to my agent.

In testing I do not see it in the test history being called. But by customizing the message returned, I can easily recognize that it has been called.

@David_MA Yes, putting Messages into all paths of any topic is my current way to debug the choosen paths.

    Hi @Konrad,

Just wanted to check in and see if everything is working now. If you still need any help, feel free to let me know.

Also, if the issue is resolved, it would be great if you could mark the answer as solved so others with the same question can find it easily.

Thanks and have a great day!
