Applying Copilot Suggestions to Specific Document Section

Hi,

I have a Copilot Studio Agent / M365 Agent that uses instructions and a knowledge base as a playbook. Copilot provides suggestions based on this. I want to apply those suggestions by automatically updating and replacing content in the relevant sections of a document. What are the available approaches to achieve this?

For that you need to create a process that user sent the feedback of this suggestions, and update the document to update the information. But for that i would recommend that you use readme files.

Good question and there are a few confirmed approaches depending on what "automatically applying" means in your context.

Option 1: Power Automate + Word template content controls (most reliable for structured docs)
If your document has consistent sections, use Word content controls to mark each section. In Power Automate, the Word Online connector's "Populate a Microsoft Word template" action can replace specific content control placeholders. Your Copilot Studio agent collects the suggestion, passes it to a Power Automate flow as a parameter, and the flow populates the right content control in the document.
This works well when sections are predictable (e.g. always a Summary section, always a Recommendations section).

Option 2: Power Automate + Microsoft Graph Word API
For finer-grained control over specific sections without content controls, the Microsoft Graph API supports reading and updating Word document content via the /me/drive/items/{id}/workbook or the /drive/items/{id}/content endpoint. You can also use the Office Scripts action in Power Automate to open the Word file, find a section by heading text, and replace its content programmatically. This requires Microsoft 365 Business Standard or higher for Office Scripts.

Option 3: M365 Copilot Agent Mode in Word (if you have M365 Copilot license)
As of April 2026, Agent Mode in Word is generally available. This lets an agent take multi-step actions directly inside a Word document, including finding specific sections and replacing content. You can configure your Copilot Studio agent to pass suggestions to Word's Agent Mode via a prompt. This is the most natural approach but requires each user to have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

Which approach fits best depends on whether the updates are fully automated (no human confirmation) or human-in-the-loop where a user confirms before the document is changed. Can you share more about your document structure and whether users approve suggestions before they're applied?
