Hello,

I am trying to explore plugin action (still in preview) and tried to get data from various data sources like SharePoint site, dataverse, excel stored in OneDrive for Business.

With all 3 connectors, I am not able to get data but always getting error in chatbot while querying something...

I tried by configuring authentication and without configuring authentication also but nothing works 😞

Any help/guidance will be highly appreciated.

Moreover, at least I don't find any proper documentation/guidance where it mentioned that which connector required authentication to be configured and which connector don't require authentication.

All videos/blog posts are showing example of plug in action using MSN Weather connector which works fine even in my environment.

Hello @Asjad_Lakhani

Which connectors did you try to use and to execute what kind of action? Since the feature is still in preview not all connectors are 100% compatible with generative actions (for now) - in some scenario it is better to simply call a power automate flow that will call your particular action / connector.

Authentication depends on each connector, please check the connector documentation.

Note that Generative Action (or plugin action) is used when you need to execute an API call to another system, not retrieve information from Sharepoint / One Drive / Excel, for this you can just setup the Generative Answer (by following this configuration).

When configuring your authentication, you should also give additional rights so that the bot can access files (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-copilot-studio/nlu-generative-answers-sharepoint-onedrive ).

In order to find which connector need authentication or not, I try to ask myself "do I need to connect to access the resource ?". I need to connect to access sharepoint but I don't need to connect to access bing so generative answers with websites shouldn't need connection but sharepoint should need one.

What is the kind of error you are encountering ? Is it something where the connection message is showed infinitely ?

@remidyon - Thank you for quick revert. Much appreciated. Please see my views as below.
I was exploring plugin actions and I tried to use connectors like SharePoint, Dataverse, Excel from OneDrive for Business
I understand that not all connectors are compatible with generative action but at the same time I tried to use my plug action inside the topic also but it is still not working
Calling a power automate flow that will call your particular action / connector seems a traditional way and I believe that now we shall use plug actions using gen AI feature to get best out of Copilot Studio new features
I checked the connector documentation for authentication but still lot of confusing and not clearly mentioned when to configure authentication in my custom copilot and when not to configure e.g. without plugin action using gen AI feature, I can provide SharePoint sites along with public facing websites, in this case sometime my copilot working without configuring authentication and sometime it stops working so at that time if I configure authentication then also it does not work and gives error. I registered ticket with MS support but the support persons are also doing trials and experiments and not firm answers are given at the moment.
My believe regarding Generative Action (or plugin action) is that it not only used to execute an API call to another system but now we can leverage the connectors directly in plug in actions without calling the MS Flow.

Regarding connector authentication, please see point# 4 mentioned above, it is sometimes working without configuring authentication and sometime it stops working so at that time if I configure authentication then also it does not work and gives error.

I find myself in a similar position, if someone has successfully generated a plugin action connected to sharepoint, a guide would be much appreciated
