Is it possible to add links or reference the knowledge base in the prompt action

I created a topic. In that topic, I clicked on "add node" then "add a tool" then "New prompt". When I click on "View model details", and I click on "+Add content" I get the option to choose from the knowledge sources. Unfortunately the only knowledge sources I can reference are: Dataverse, Salesforce, Oracle Database and Zendesk. Why can't I reference either the docs from my knowledge sources that I uploaded or something from my sharepoint / onedrive?

Currently the knowledge source are limited as per Microsoft there is no definite plan about SharePoint and OneDrive we have to wait.

Hi @AB-12031119-0, “Add content” in Prompt shows only structured connectors only (Dataverse, Salesforce, etc.). Knowledge sources (Files / SharePoint) are not usable as prompt inputs. That’s why they don’t appear. If you want to get data from sharepoint then you may:
    • Use Microsoft Power Automate to fetch the file (SharePoint/OneDrive)
    • Pass it to the prompt as dynamic file input.

I hope this works for you!

    Hello @AB-12031119-0,
    This behavior is by design.
The New prompt tool in Copilot Studio only supports structured enterprise data sources and does not have access to agent-level knowledge sources such as SharePoint, OneDrive, uploaded documents, or website knowledge. Those sources are only used by the agent orchestrator at runtime, not within prompt tools.

    Hi,

This is expected behavior based on how Prompt actions and Knowledge sources are currently designed in Copilot Studio.

The “+ Add content” option inside the prompt (View model details) only supports structured data sources such as:

    • Dataverse

    • Salesforce

    • Oracle Database

    • Zendesk

These are supported because they expose tabular/structured data that can be directly queried by the model.

On the other hand, knowledge sources like:

    • Uploaded documents

    • SharePoint / OneDrive files

are part of the Generative answers / knowledge grounding experience, and are not directly available inside the Prompt tool configuration.

That’s why you don’t see them listed in the “+ Add content” section.

If you want to use your uploaded knowledge or SharePoint documents, you can consider these approaches:

    • Use Generative answers node instead of a prompt, as it is designed to work with knowledge sources

    • Let the agent respond using knowledge grounding, and then pass the result to the prompt if needed

    • Alternatively, expose the data via a supported structured source (e.g., Dataverse or API) if you want to use it inside a prompt

In short, prompts currently work with structured connectors, while knowledge sources like documents are used through generative answers, not directly inside the prompt configuration.

    Hope this helps.
