Can Copilot design custom Canvas apps, or does it only use templates?

Hello Community,

I’ve been trying to use the inbuilt Copilot in Power Apps to design a Canvas app. However, Copilot always generates apps using the default templates.

What I tried:

  • I provided examples of the screens I manually designed.
  • I referenced another Power Apps app as a design example.
  • I also uploaded screenshots for reference.

Even after doing all this, Copilot still ignores my design references and continues creating only basic template-style apps.

My Questions:

  1. Is there currently any way for Copilot to truly design Power Apps based on our custom layout/screens?
  2. If not, is it possible (or recommended) to build a Copilot Studio agent that can generate Power Apps based on user requirements and screenshots?
  3. Has anyone tried something similar or found a workaround?

Any clarification or guidance would be really helpful.
Thank you!

Based on my experience with the copilot which will give you screens with container specific layout apart from that you cannot extend the functionality based on your business case.

Previously there is figma exists with figma you can create an app with specific layouts based on the template which microsoft has deprecated last year.

Creating apps from Copilot will help you building the screen with container layouts but Pixel by pixel rendering of controls which is not possible you have to design the app based on the template which is generated.
