How to convert whole record to string?

Generative answers require the input to be a string and my data is a record. How do I solve this?

Hi,

As you're working with a record, I guess it contains many fields. Which field do you want to read? or Do you want to get all fields concatenated into a single value? Can you share the structure of the record?

Hi @fchopo,

I want to get all the fields concatenated as a single (JSON) string. My record has 30-40 fields and I rather not set them as individual variables.

For the input to the Generative answers action, try using a Formula and pass in your record to the JSON function - "JSON(record)"

That's not possible unfortunately:

The JSON function cannot serialize objects of type 'Record'.

Text() and ParseJSON() doesn't work either.

Yes Generative Answers need input in string only. Passing the Json types will not work.

You will need to build the whole string using Power automate flow and then pass on through the Generative Answers node.

But logically why do we have to pass the whole record as input to Generative answers?

If your requirement is to pass the whole record information, then we need to go for different approach using Custom Actions (or) Custom Prompt (or) even Power automate.

Have you tried using Custom Actions using AI builder to summarize the record . This can give you the result in string format. You can use this summarized data into your generative answers if required.
