Error connecting to Dynamics 365 with CDS connector

Hi,

I have a Dynamics 365 environment and I am trying to use the CDS connector to connect a Cavas PowerApp to it.  However, I get the following error when I try use the connection in an app. I get to the stage where I need to select an entity.

The environment 'Default-<GUID>' is not linked to a new CDS 2.0 instance. The operation 'ListInstanceMetadata' is forbidden for unlinked environments.

I thought it was possible to use the CDS connector to connect to Dynamics 365 but maybe I am wrong?

Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi @HSheild,

Could you please share a bit more about the error message within your app?

Do you mean that the error shows up when you use the CDS connection within your app?

The error message told that your Default environment of PowerApps could not be linked to a new CDS 2.0 instance.

I have made a test on my side, and don't have the issue that you mentioned.

Please check if the Default environment of your PowerApps has installed a new version Common Data Service (CDS 2.0). In addition, please take a try to clear cache of your browser, and then check if the issue is solved.

Also please take a try to re-create a new connection within your app, then check if the issue still exists.

    Best regards,

    Kris

    Hi Kris,

Thanks for your help.  I have cleared my browser cache and have retried a few times to create the connection.

Here are the steps that I have taken...

    1. Provision a new trial of Dynamics 365 - this creates the Default environment
    2. Open PowerApps and click Create an App
    3. Under Start from data, select Phone Layout for the Common Data Service
    4. Create the Common Data Service connection
    5. Connection is created but when the Dataset is being returned to select the entity an error occurs
    6. Click on More, gives the error in my original post

I have added screenshots for steps 3 and 5 below for clarity.

The Default environment does not have a CDS 2.0 associated with it, and I am not able to create one.  If I try create a CDS instance in the Default environment I get the error "It looks like you don't have permission to use the Common Data Service in this environment. Switch to a different environment, or create your own."  I can only assume this is becasue there really is a CDS instance in the Default environment because it was provisioned with Dynamics 365.

I have also gone ahead and created a new PowerApps environment in the same tenant as the Dynamics 365 trial and this environment has also been labelled as "Default" too.  See the 3rd attached screenshot.  The environment called "Fusion5 (Default)" is my Dynamics 365 environment where I cannot use the CDS connector to connect to the CDS under Dynamics 365.  The environment called  "CDS Fusion5 (Default)" is the newly created PowerApps environment.

My question is quite simple.  Am I supposed to be able to connect the CDS connector to a Dynamics 365 environment?  I thought this was possible since CDS and Dynamics 365 are essentially the same.  I understand that there is a Dynamics 365 connector but I have been told that this connector is no longer being developed and all the enhancements will be going into the CDS connector.
