One User Cannot Use App, and Has Formatting Differences

Hello,

I deployed an app about a month ago and about 5 different users are using this app daily. It works as intended for everyone but 1 user. This user cannot Patch any records (app has buttons that patch a record to a SQL data source). When they hit the button to patch a record the button goes gray, it spins forever, and nothing ever happens. No errors, just no record of a patch ever occurring. This user has the same permissions in every way as the other users.

On top of that, the formatting that this user sees is different too. The font size I set in all labels is different for this user and so the text doesn't fit in any of the boxes and it looks like a mess.

The issues randomly went away for this user for a day or two and then came back and they are unable to make any patches again.

Any idea what could be going on? I feel it could be more hardware related that Power Apps at this point, but I am stumped.

Thank you in advance.

Since the app works for everyone except one user, this is not an app issue in Microsoft Power Apps—it’s a user-specific client problem.

    Most likely cause
    • Corrupted browser/session cache
    • Display scaling / browser issue
    • Connection/authentication glitch
    Explains both:
    • Patch not working (infinite spinner)
    • UI formatting issues
    Best fix (try first)
    • Clear browser cache
    • Hard refresh (Ctrl + Shift + R)
    • Open app in Incognito/InPrivate mode
    • Use latest Edge/Chrome
    • Reset zoom to 100%
    Quick test
    • If it works in Incognito → cache issue confirmed

Single-user issues = almost always device/session/browser problem, not app logic

That's a frustrating combo, but the two issues might actually be connected.

The formatting issue is your biggest clue.

Fonts and labels looking different for one user almost always means a display scaling or browser zoom difference. Have them check Windows Display Settings → "Scale and layout" (should be 100%), and browser zoom (Ctrl+0 to reset). This alone can also cause button behavior issues if elements overlap due to scaling.

For the Patch spinning forever with no error, try these in order:

    1. Fix display scaling first — if buttons are overlapping due to layout issues, OnSelect might not fire properly

    2. Try incognito mode with extensions disabled — ad blockers and security plugins can silently block connector API calls

    3. Try a different browser entirely — if it works, the original browser's cache/profile is corrupted

    4. Re-authenticate the SQL connection — Power Apps portal → Data → Connections → find the SQL connection → have the user re-auth even if it looks healthy

    5. Check network/VPN — is this user on a different network or proxy than the others? Connector calls timing out would cause the exact "spin forever, no error" behavior

    6. Run the Monitor tool — have the user open the app with Monitor active (App Checker → Open Monitor), hit the Patch button, and check what the network call actually shows. Even when the app displays no error, Monitor captures everything

    7.

The intermittent nature (worked for a day, broke again) strongly points toward browser cache corruption, token/session expiry, or network instability — not a permanent config or permissions issue.

My gut: display scaling is causing the visual mess, and either browser cache corruption or a network-level difference is causing the Patch timeouts. Hardware is probably fine — it's almost always a software/environment difference between that user and the others.

Start with scaling + incognito test — that covers both issues in about 2 minutes.
