Automate converting files from xlsb to xlsx

Hello,

I’m new to Power Automate and would like to know this is possible and if so, any references/resources would be greatly appreciated.

I have a SharePoint (SP) folder containing xlsb (Excel Binary) files and I want to create a Power Automate to take these files and save them as an xlsx file in a different SharePoint folder. And this only applies to files with a certain string in the filename (a condition). Because these files are updated through out the day, would like to run it once by end of day, overwriting files saved in the other SP.

Is this possible with Power Automate? I could not find a template involving file conversion.

Please and thank you.

@cferv_77 I'm trying to solve the same problem, curious to see if you found a way.

    @S_PBI

We ended up using a macro based on a script found on Stack Overflow:
excel - How to change 100 files from .xlsb to .xlsx in a folder - Stack Overflow

We made some modification to make it point to the SharePoint path where the xlsb files are located. It loops through all the xlsb files and saves them one by one as an xlsx file.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi!

not sure if you had any success with this but I have managed to get around this for tabled data only by converting to csv:

    1. create a table in the xlsb file using office script if you dont already have a named table range in the workbook
    2. use list rows connector to read rows
    3. create csv table
    4. create file using csv data

We use this for Power BI as Power BI can read csv without plug ins.

it doesnt result in an xlsx file but if you can use csv maybe its a solution?

Since this is the top google result for "Convert .xlsx to .xlsb". Here is what I came up with for Power Automate:
