Can a Copilot Studio Agent be Added Programmatically to a Teams Group Chat?

Hi Everyone,

I'm working on a solution where a Teams group chat is automatically created using Copilot/Power Automate for each Request. The Workflow/Powerautomate creates the chat, adds the required reviewers, and posts an initial message.
While testing in Teams, I noticed that group chats have an "Add agents" option available in the UI.

Is it possible to add a Copilot Studio agent (published to Teams) to a group chat programmatically?

  1. Can this be done through:
    • Power Automate
    • Microsoft Graph API
    • Teams APIs
  2. If not, is there any supported approach to automatically include an agent in a newly created group chat?
  3. Are there any requirements regarding the Teams app manifest scopes (Personal, Group Chat, Team) for an agent to participate in group chats?

Scenario:

  • A new Request is created.
  • Copilot/Power Automate creates a Teams group chat.
  • Specific reviewers are added.
  • Ideally, a Copilot Studio agent would also be added to the chat to answer questions and help reviewers discuss the Request context.

  •

I can manually see the "Add agents" option in Teams, but I haven't found documentation on whether this action is supported through automation.
Has anyone implemented something similar or found a supported approach?

Thanks!

Currently, there is no documented/supported API or Power Automate action to programmatically perform the Teams "Add agents" operation for a Copilot Studio agent in a group chat. You can create the chat and add users via Power Automate or Microsoft Graph, but adding the agent automatically is not officially supported.

    Hi @abhisc,

What you see is a native Teams capability and not controlled by your Power Automate workflow or Copilot Studio.

Currently, there is no direct way to disable or hide this "Add agents" option from group chats created via Power Automate or other APIs. This option appears regardless of how the chat was created (manually or programmatically).

Currently, there is no supported API or Power Automate action to directly add a Copilot Studio agent (bot) to an existing Teams group chat programmatically. Also, rhe Microsoft Graph API allows creating group chats and adding users, but does not support adding bots or agents directly as chat members in group chats via API.
