Unable to use Windows emoji panel to enter special characters

I am developing a Canvas App in PowerApps and I am encountering issues using the Windows emoji panel (Win + .) to insert special characters (such as ’, ’) in the formula bar.

To reproduce this issue, edit a Canvas App, add a Text label, and select the Text property. Move keyboard focus into the formula bar and try using the Windows emoji panel to insert a special character. In Edge and Brave browsers, nothing happens when you select a special character. Firefox behaves as expected, so I expect this is an issue related to the Chromium engine running under the hood of Brave and Edge.
I have the same question (0)

Withot typing did you try to copy the special character (say from another source or windows emoji panel) and directly paste it into the formula bar?

I am sure some clues I tried to give. If these clues help to resolve the issue brought you by here, please don't forget to check the box Does this answer your question? At the same time, I am pretty sure you have liked the response!

Yes, I am able to copy the special character to the clipboard and paste it in the formula bar. I apologize for not remembering when I first encountered this erroneous behavior, but I was able to use the Windows emoji panel up until about a month or two ago regardless of browser. I report this because the behavior changed.

Yes, copy/paste is a viable workaround and working in Firefox is a viable workaround, but it would be preferable to see action on Microsoft's part to identify the root cause of this change in behavior and implement a solution.

This is a known Chromium engine issue affecting Monaco editor (which the Power Apps formula bar uses). Recent Edge/Chrome updates changed how the emoji panel inserts characters into web-based code editors that use their own input handling, which is why Firefox still works.

Copy-paste is the practical workaround for now. For the specific characters you need (like curly apostrophes), another option is typing them via Alt codes directly: Alt+0146 for ' on a numpad.

Since this is a Chromium-level behavior change affecting Monaco editor broadly, it's not something Power Apps can fix in isolation. Worth filing two separate feedback items: one at https://ideas.powerapps.com and one at the Edge/Chromium feedback (edge://feedback) referencing Monaco editor and the emoji panel regression. The Power Apps team can track the Chromium issue and implement a workaround on their side if enough feedback comes in.
