Classic Advanced Find

Microsoft appears to be deprecating the classic advanced find control. In many of our sites it no longer works as the action buttons are now missing. Any ideas on getting it back? We have found the modern advanced find difficult to use and lacking in many of the features in the classic version.

This is expected behavior. Microsoft is gradually deprecating the classic Advanced Find, and in many environments the UI elements or action buttons have already started disappearing.

There is no reliable way to bring it back once the change has rolled out to your environment. Microsoft is focusing on the modern Advanced Find experience going forward.

A couple of options you can try:
    • Check if “Advanced Find” via URL still works in your environment, though this is being phased out as well
    • Use modern Advanced Find + saved views to recreate common queries
    • For more complex scenarios, consider Power Automate or Dataverse queries as a workaround
The modern experience is still catching up in terms of usability and features, so you are not alone in finding it limiting.

    Launch(
        "https://[yourorg].crm.dynamics.com/main.aspx?pagetype=advancedfind"
    )

    Notes
    • Replace [yourorg] with your Dataverse environment URL
    • This opens Advanced Find in a new browser tab, not inside Canvas
    • In many tenants, this endpoint is already:
      • partially broken, or
      • fully removed
So this only works if your environment has not fully deprecated it yet.

    Hi,

Yes, you can try opening the classic Advanced Find directly using a URL like this:

    https://<yourorg>.dynamics.com/main.aspx?pagetype=advancedfind

    For example:

    https://<yourorg>.dynamics.com/main.aspx?pagetype=advancedfind

This may still open the classic Advanced Find page in some environments.

You can also use tools like XrmToolBox to work with FetchXML, saved queries, personal views, and system views. However, XrmToolBox will not restore the missing classic Advanced Find buttons inside the model-driven app UI.

Microsoft has been moving customers towards the modern Advanced Find / modern search and filtering experience, so the classic Advanced Find experience may not be fully reliable in all environments. If the classic Advanced Find page opens but the action buttons are missing, that usually means the legacy experience is no longer fully supported or is being phased out in that environment.

I would suggest verifying the following:

    1. Check whether any setting is still available for classic/legacy Advanced Find in the environment or app settings.

    2. Test the direct URL with a System Administrator role:

    https://<yourorg>.dynamics.com/main.aspx?pagetype=advancedfind

    1. Try in another browser or InPrivate/Incognito mode to rule out browser/cache issues.

    2. Check whether the same behaviour occurs in all environments or only one specific environment.

    3. If the requirement is mainly to create or update views, consider using:

      • Modern Advanced Find

      • View designer in the maker portal

      • XrmToolBox tools such as FetchXML Builder or View Designer

    4.

In summary, the direct URL and XrmToolBox can help for some admin/configuration scenarios, but they should not be treated as a long-term supported replacement for the classic Advanced Find UI.

If the missing buttons are happening across multiple environments, the recommended path is to move towards the modern experience by using targeted system views, personal views, or a custom search page for complex search scenarios.

    Hope this helps.
