Connecting Azure SQLServer with AD authentication

Hi everyone,

Need help for the creating database connection for Azure SQL server.

Tried different options in datalink properties window, but except windows NT and username/password authentication options are available.

Please let me know if there is any option available for connecting Azure SQL server with AD authentication, do we need to select different provider?

Normally your Azure AD will be setup to sync with your on-premises AD. If it is then you can use the AAD account just like you would the AD account. The user id is in the form of a User Principal Name, but its the same account. If AAD isn't synced then there is no connection with on-premises AD and AD credentials won't work.

Thanks for the reply , but how to check the sync between AAD and on-prem AD? and will the second option (accepting user name and password will work for connecting the database)?

For the sync you would need to check with your AD domain admins or tenant global admins. Both should know if the sync is being done. But it is in almost all organizations that have both an on-premises AD and an Office 365 tenant. Otherwise people need two accounts and passwords. AD sync is perfect. Could you please provide which provider to be used and is there any extended properties to be used?
Tried building the connection string from ‘Connection string’ option for provider “Microsoft OLEDB Provider for ODBC Drivers” but following error is showing and the link in the error http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=234947 is not working.

to build the connection string that way you need the Microsoft online Service sign-in component. Here's an article on how to install it. Install MSOnline | Microsoft Docs
