Flow never ends

Hi All,

I created an ai model that extract certain information from a pdf and then created a flow to use that ai model, then export the output from the ai model into an excel file and each data under a specified column in excel. The flow runs for hours with no result. I know the ai model works almost perfectly and can't figure out what I am doing wrong with the flow. Pictures of the flow attached, I am a beginner who could use any help I can get. Thank you

I have the same question (0)

@GenAi I would imagine the logic of your flow needs to be adjusted. It's hard to say what the issue is with the screenshots you've shared. Instead, can you please switch to the Classic Designer and expand all actions and screenshot that?

In the meantime you might want to take a look at this YT Tutorial:  3 Mistakes YOU 🫵 are Making with the Apply to Each Action in your Microsoft Power Automate Flow

You have quite a few nested Apply to Each actions and I think that might be one of your issues.

In this video tutorial I’ll go over how to avoid these common mistakes when using the Apply to Each action in a Power Automate flow:

1️⃣ Looping through a Single Item

    2️⃣ Creating Unnecessary Nested Loops

3️⃣ Looping through an Unfiltered Array

At the end of the video I share a few helpful insights when it comes to using the Apply to Each action in your flow.

    I'll also cover:

How to avoid the Apply to Each action with a single item array

How to use the item() function to access dynamic content in an array

How to prevent unnecessary nested Apply to Each action loops

How to use the Select action

How to convert an array to a string with the Select action

How to use the Filter Query field

How to count the number of items in an array

How to use a condition control

How to use the concurrency control

How to set a top count

How to use Compose actions for troubleshooting

    Hope this helps!

@creativeopinion Thank you for your reply and the video. The video is very helpful and I need to re-watch it. In the meantime, here is the flow in classic view. I agree that the logic in the flow is off and the nested loops even makes it worse.

    Re: Flow never ends

@GenAi Can you pls expand the Add a row to a table action? It would help to provide more context. However, I'm going to just assume that each time you insert dynamic content from the Extract Information from Documents, it automatically adds an Apply to Each action to your flow. If you can show what the output of the Extract Information from Documents is—it could provide additional insights.

This is because the data from your dynamic content is returned as an array. In my tutorial I linked in the prev post it covers how you can avoid the Apply to Each action. You'll need to use an expression to do so.

    Hope this helps.

@creativeopinion  Please see attached image showing how I want the data exported to excels, ie  YTD  data goes to column6.  Thank you so much
