Flow runs remain in cancelling state

Whenever Im trying to cancel the flow run, the state remains in cancelling but its taking longer to update the status.

@PA-31101156-0 Hi,

You can choose that one (Canceling) , then check if you cancel available.

If not available, resubmit it and then click cancel before it finishes.

Try Turning the Flow off and back on.

If you resubmit it, you will simply start another, and still have that one stuck in cancelling.

You want to actually cancel it.

Also note, that its possible that it will stay this way for 2-4 days before it finally cleans up. Its a whole back end stuck process that occurs. However technically speaking, turn it off and on will stop those. But it still might say running until a few days when cleanup occurs

Hi,

Wait for Natural Timeout

Most flows will eventually timeout (usually 30 days for premium connectors, 5 minutes for basic)

The cancelling status should resolve automatically once the timeout occurs

Force Stop via PowerShell

Preventive Design Changes

Add Timeout Controls

Configure timeout settings in your flow actions

Set shorter timeout values for HTTP requests and other external calls

Use the "Configure run after" settings to handle failures gracefully

Implement Cancellation Tokens

Use variables to track cancellation requests

Add condition checks at strategic points in your flow

Design loops and long-running processes to check for cancellation signals

Break Down Long-Running Processes

Split complex flows into smaller, manageable chunks

Use child flows that can be cancelled independently

Implement checkpoints where the flow can safely stop

Administrative Solutions

Environment Admin Actions

Contact your Power Platform administrator

They can force-terminate stuck flows through the admin center

May require escalation to Microsoft support for persistent issues

Flow History Cleanup

Delete the flow run history if the flow eventually completes

This won't affect the cancellation but cleans up the interface
