Flow Times Out - can you check my logic?

Hello,

I am having a hard time getting my Flow to NOT time out.

I have this Flow built elsewhere, where it runs ok. But when I copy the second half of it and modify for this purpose, I can't get it to do as it should because it will run for 10+ min on my Apply to Each and not do anything.

Here is what my logic looks like, just focusing on the part that times out. I will add more pics if it helps.

The 'value' in my Apply to Each is the Body of a master Excel table, which is populated by a different Flow.

My concurrency is set to 1, which I am sure slows it down. But I think I need that setting that way, as per the notification from MS when I add a Set Variable to an Apply to Each.

Please let me know if you have any ideas, and thank you.

-Ryan

@rnavrot  on which action does your flow timeout. I looked at the screenshots you have shared, there is a lot going on in the apply to each loop, is it possible for you to break down into multiple flows, that would also help with performance. Also using the set variable action and switch within apply to each will make your flow too slow, so try to avoid using that if possible.

    Hello,

The flow times out in this giant Apply to Each. The part of the Flow before this succeeds, but the part AFTER the Apply to Each doesn't have an opportunity to run, because it has been timing out here.

I would be happy to remove my Set Variables, but I am not sure how I would maintain all the data in the same cluster, as it all runs off of 1 Row at a time in my Excel sheet. It seems to me like I need to run through all the data in the individual Row, so I am not sure how I could keep my Due Date grouped together with the Task without using an Apply to Each.

I am ALSO pretty inexperience with using the Child Flows, but that seems to me to be a possible solution to break this one up into pieces.....

Thank you for the insight, I will keep working.

My problem here turned out to be that 50% of the actions in the Apply to Each loop did not have any bearing on the final output.

For example, my filter was providing an output but the output was not used.

This section no longer times out because I have greatly reduced the clutter. Thanks for the help, Anna.

@rnavrot  you could use compose action instead of set variables, if you are not looking for those values to be used outside of apply to each action. Switch action also makes Apply to each slow, instead you can use condition, i know it wont look as clean as using switch but condition action helps with performance.
