Reverse changes in certain SharePoint list columns

Hi all,

I am looking to create a workflow that reverses any modifications made to specific columns in a SharePoint list.

I already have a workflow which takes emails and creates an item in sharepoint list, then I have columns such as 'Status' and 'Assigned to' which need to be able to be modified, however the columns with the details of the emails I don't want to be modified. Is there a way to do this please?

Many thanks in advance,

Jess

    Hi @jjcook,

I would suggest to have a look at alternative solution approach (instead of using a Power Automate cloud flow). I would say this is more a data entry/forms requirement type of thing.

It is for example possible to show/hide fields in SharePoint forms (like new item):

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/dev/declarative-customization/list-form-conditional-show-hide

Alternatively, you can also use Power Apps customizations to lock down/make the field read-only

    https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Power-Apps/How-to-make-an-auto-populated-field-read-only/td-p/187355

Below is an example on how to hide a couple of fields from the new item/edit item forms. (click on the gif to see it in higher resolution).

    Hi there,

Many thanks for your answer! My only problem is that there is no Microsoft Form involved which seems necessary for the answers above.
I have a workflow that takes information from an email and creates an item in a sharepoint list with the contents of the email e.g., subject, body, attachments. There are other fields in the list that aren't auto-populated which need to be able to be edited. But the fields that are from the email I would like to be read-only, is there a way around this please?

    Thank you!

    Hi @jjcook,

All the options I suggested above are features from SharePoint Online lists. With sufficient permissions you should be able to see those in your list.

Just click new item button in your list and find that edit form button in the right top corner of the new item form. That should be available for you as well.
