I need to insert the body of an email into Planner task

Hello,

I've built a flow to create a Planner task from an email, using the email subject as the title and received time as the task start date.

I also want/need to include the body of the email in the task itself.

Is there a way to do that other than manually?

    Hi @Anonymous,

Where do you want the email body to be filled in Planner? Here are all the available fields currently in Planner - Create task action:

If you want to fill the email body in other fields in Planner, you could post this idea in the Flow Ideas forum, so it might be considered for future releases.

    Thanks for the reply.

So, I'd like to get the body of the email somewhere into the task, not into the title.

The overall Flow I'm trying to build is this: When I receive an email from a specific email address (aircomserver@airnz.co.nz), I want the Flow to create a Planner Task, using the subject of the email as the title of the task, with a start date time of the email receipt date. I've been able to create this much, but have yet to get it to execute consistently.

In addition, I'd like the due date to be automatically generated for 2 days after receipt of the email, and for the body of the email to appear in the task's description field. I've tried to do this by Update Task Details flow step, but it requires the unique ID of the new task, which I don't know how to bring into the flow step.

    Any help is appreciated.

I accomplished this by adding a new action.  For the task ID, I used the dynamic content and clicked "ID" and it worked.

For the description, I clicked the dynamic content "Body" and it filled in the body of the email, almost like you were trying to do.

My problem is that it puts the HTML version of the email and not just the text.

Re: HTML, let it run overnight. It may correct itself. A collegue had the same issue, and it resolved over time.

You can convert the HTML body of the email by adding an action and choosing HTML to Text,  then I've been doing another Action to translate that text to english, not sure if helps but then I take and do another action and grab my Planner Task and update the description with the translated text.

I'm getting errors with your workflow at the last step: Update Task Details. it seems that the Dynamic Content "Id" is failing. Any tips on how to resolve that?

I don't, strangely I had the same error pop up out of no where. One day I went to show a co-worker how to use flow and I used this one as my example and that error was gone.  I enabled it and it started working.  No idea what changed.  Sorry I can't help there.

Thanks for the quick reply. I found the fix in another thread. It seems a bug was introduced in Flow and now you have to add a "Delay" action between the Task creation step and the Task Details editing step. See this post:

I get an error when running update task details:

"Schema validation has failed. Validation for field 'Description', on entity 'TaskDetails' has failed: The field cannot be longer than 32768 characters

I am populating the body of the mail in the description.  Is there a way to truncate the body message so it can be less than the character allowance?

Also/alternatively, is there a way to create a dynamic link back to the email message.  It would be fine to link to either the webmail or the local client.
