Migrating Workflows to a New Power Automate Gateway

I recently set up a new EC2 instance in AWS and installed a Power Automate gateway on it. The installation was performed using an elevated-privileged user, and the gateway is now running and showing as 'Online' in the Power Automate portal.

Currently, we have an older gateway already in use in our Power Automate setup. Our goal is to migrate all workflows from the old gateway to the newly installed one. However, we are uncertain about the proper process to ensure this transition is smooth and no workflows are disrupted.

Here are our main concerns:

  1. In the Power Automate portal, we see Gateways, Connections, and Workflows. Could someone clarify the associations between these components?

    • Does a workflow always depend on a specific gateway?
    • Are workflows tied to the connections within a specific gateway, or do they remain functional as long as the required connection exists?
  2. If we disable the old gateway, will workflows previously associated with it continue to work with the new gateway, provided the required connections exist in the new one?

We want to ensure a seamless migration and avoid any disruptions to our workflows. Any guidance or best practices for migrating workflows to a new gateway would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

You pick the gateway or gateway cluster you want to use when you create a Connection.  If you pick a gateway cluster then the connection will continue to work as long as one of the gateways in the group is still operational. But if you picked an individual gateway then you will probably need to create a new connection that points to the new gateway and edit each flow to use that connection.
