MICROSOFT APP IN A DAY ONLINE WORKSHOP POWER AUTOMATE FLOW CHALLENGE

Hello everyone,

I am currently participating in the Microsoft App in a Day Online Workshop, and I have encountered some issues with the Power Automate flow I created. I followed the instructions provided in the workshop, which involved creating a flow that updates a row in a Microsoft Dataverse table and sends a confirmation email to the requester based on the approval outcome.

Here are the details of my flow:

  1. Trigger: When an item is created or modified in a specific Dataverse table.
  2. Approval Step: An approval request is sent via email and Microsoft Teams.
  3. Condition: The flow checks whether the outcome of the approval is "Approve".
    • If Yes:
      • Update a row in the Dataverse table.
      • Send a confirmation email to the requester.
    • If No:
      • Send a rejection email to the requester.

Issues Encountered

  1. No Confirmation Email:

    • Upon approving the request, I receive the approval notification via both email and Microsoft Teams.
    • However, I do not receive the confirmation email that should be sent after the approval is granted.
    • Similarly, I do not receive the rejection email when the request is rejected.
  2. Dataverse Table Not Updated:

    • The rows in the Microsoft Dataverse table are not being updated as expected after the approval.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken

  1. Flow Run History:

    • I checked the Flow run history and did not find any errors or warnings. However, the email actions and Dataverse updates do not seem to execute.
  2. Condition Configuration:

    • I verified that the condition step is correctly set to check the approval outcome using the dynamic content from the approval response.
  3. Email Action Configuration:

    • I ensured that the “Send an email” actions are correctly configured with the appropriate recipient email addresses, subjects, and body content. The dynamic content references appear to be correct.
  4. Dataverse Update Row Action:

    • I confirmed that the “Update a row” action is configured correctly to update the appropriate table and row, with the correct columns and values mapped.
  5. Connections and Permissions:

    • I checked that the connections used in the flow (for Dataverse and email services) are active and have the necessary permissions.

Despite these efforts, the issues persist. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions on what might be going wrong or any additional troubleshooting steps I should take.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,
Haruna Kabaju

I don't think many people, including myself, will know what you've created in the workshop. It would be best if you include a screen show of how your flow is set up and configured. For the actions you are having trouble with, be sure to expand those so we can see how they've been configured. Otherwise, one can only guess what your issue might be. This is an example of how I set up an approval:

If you are using a switch like I am to handle the outcome of the approval, switches are case sensitive. So be sure that the choices you have in the approval action match exactly as they do in the switch. If you have it set up like this, it may be going down the default path when no match is made. You could add an e-mail to yourself under the default branch and just have it tell you no match was found. That will at least let you know where the issue lies.
