Excel Online Bad Gateway or Bad Request Error

Hi everyone,

Previously, I was able to use the Excel Script action in Power Automate without any issues, but recently I started receiving the following error message:

Run Script error message:

Bad Request
The script couldn't create a connection with Excel. Please try again.
clientRequestId: bfe13887-b3ac-4498-8361-2367163ee12d

However, the Power Automate flows that were created earlier and already use this action are still working properly. The strange part is that when I create a new flow and add the same action again, it throws the error above. When I investigated the error, it seemed to be related to the Excel connector. I tried creating a new Excel connection, but the status did not change.

After that, I decided to remove the script action altogether. Instead of creating an Excel table via a script, I gave up on that approach and tested the List rows present in a table action, which also uses the Excel Online connector. In this case, the flow waited for about 12 minutes and then failed with the following error message:

List rows present in a table – error message:

BadGateway

I also tried reducing the number of records returned by that action to see if it would help the values return more easily, but nothing changed.

Could you please help me understand what might be causing this error? Thanks in advance

You did not mention whether your data has a Table in it.

If it does not then your action will fail and it has multiple retries there.

Also, how many rows are you talking about, and did you turn on Pagination?

While I can see this action, I would need to see the proper flow to better understand your entire implementation.

However, as to why you couldn't run the script that could be for many reasons, such as other flows use a connection from someone else and they have permission and or its shared, where as the new one you create does not. It's honestly a handful of things that would need more information to find the root cause.

As for list rows, make sure you have pagination turned on under settings. Make sure you have a Do Until loop around the Apply to each so you can keep looping through each page.

More details on your flow, the data size etc would help.

If these suggestions help resolve your issue, Please consider Marking the answer as such and also maybe a like.

    Thank you!
    Sincerely, Michael Gernaey

    Hi @ltfDre,

Based on your screenshot, it appears that the Site Address parameter is not resolving correctly. How are you setting this parameter? Could you please share a screenshot from edit mode?
In the meantime, try setting the parameters (Site, Library, and File) in the Get tables action by browsing and confirm that the names resolve correctly, as shown in the screenshot below.

In edit mode - Parameters are resolved :

Post run - Parameters are resolved:

I hope this information helps! If it does, please consider giving a 👍.
    Best regards,

    Hi ,

Exactly. The purpose of the Script action is to create a table that is then fetched by the Outlook trigger. Because of this, I gave up on fetching it and decided to change the trigger and manually use an Excel file that already has a table. However, this approach still results in errors in Excel-related actions (such as List rows).

Also, how many rows are you talking about, and did you turn on Pagination?
I have approximately 2200 rows on the excel file.

You can find full actions flow:
