Connectors

Hi All, and a very happy Thursday to you!
With a mix of connector types in the implementation of M365, e.g. SharePoint and Outlook connectors are "non-business" and Teams is "business" - how simple is it to change all connectors to "business" type, and what would the impact be to existing flows? I've googled and the act of changing type seems to be relatively simple...just wanted real world input of the reality of doing it.
Thanks in advance!

The actions themselves would need to be changed to the "business" versions as well. Depending on the size and scope of your flow, this can be a small or big task. Remember that dynamic content later in the flow will be automatically removed from actions when the source action is deleted from earlier in the flow.

Hey Tomac! Thanks for the heads-up. Do you know if there is a way to avoid this pain at all?

Unfortunately no, not that I've been able to find.

It can be made easier by making a copy of your flow first, having both open in edit mode, then when you add the business versions of the actions make sure they have the same name as the originals. You can then copy/paste the expressions and dynamic contents from the copy to the original, which should alleviate some of the headache. You just have to be careful.

Your Power Platform Admin categorizes different connectors as Business or Non-Business using Data Policies.  Data Policies are used to enforce whether different connectors can be used in the same flow or not.  I suspect that is why you want to change them. @Tomac implies that there are Business and non-business versions of the actions.  There aren't, its all based on how the connector that has the action is classified in the Data Policy for the environment.  Your admin can easily move all the affected connectors into the same category, but I suspect they won't want to.  Its normally done to prevent users from doing something like accessing email from Outlook and posting it to Teams.  There is no way to edit a single flow to change business or non-business connectors to a different category. It must be done using Data Polices.  These articles discusses Data Policies in the Power Platform.  Data policies - Power Platform | Microsoft Learn  Implementing Data Loss Prevention(DLP) in Microsoft Power Platform: Strategies, Threat Models, and Enterprise Controls

Please help me understand where I'm incorrect on this, as I see different sets of actions for business and non-business actions:

Are these actions the same and listed under two sets for another reason? Always happy to learn a thing :-)

Hi Paul, thanks for the detailed explanation, much appreciated.  So the problem I have is that Outlook and SharePoint connectors are in "non-business" and Teams is "business".  DLP policy is preventing me from posting a message from SharePoint to a Teams Group chat. So, based on your commentary, the Admin could moved Outlook and SharePoint connectors to "Business" and this would allows me to post a message from SharePoint to a Teams Group chat?

@Tomac Take a look at the two articles I posted to see where the classification comes from.  One Drive for Business and One Drive are different products that use different logins (Microsoft Account vs. Work or School Account). Similarly the Excel Business vs. Excel OneDrive are different connectors that have different actions to connect to different data sources. Although the label is business the OneDrive label doesn't imply non-business.  Also, in the case of SharePoint and most other connectors there is only one Connector and it only uses the Work or School Account login.

    Hope those articles help clarify.

@SP-31071509-0 Yes, its fairly easy for an admin to move connectors from non-Business to Business or vice-versa.  But such a move would effect every connector used in that environment. So it could easily fix your problem and break a bunch of other apps/flows.  Check with your admin about why they made the classifications they did.  One solution to the problem would be to ask them for an environment where you can do your app/flow that has a different Data Policy.  That way you can use the connectors you want without disrupting other users.  But it depends on why they've created the policy the way it is whether they will be willing to make changes or not.
