Modern Combobox doesn't save text entered

Hello All,

I've having some issues with the new modern combobox. Let's say I don't want to select from the dropdown but enter a new value. I enter the value Test for Select of Enter new AI Topic (see below)

As soon as I click off of the combobox the value I entered disappears (see below).

Does anyone have any ideas what is going on and to fix this? Thanks!

no idea to be honest with you - it is in preview so I think so features and parts of it are not really complete or ready yet. I would suggest not using the modern combo box, and just use the old one since you know it will work.

Is there any specific reason you need to use the modern combo box?

Hi @nleuck_101,

After some testing on my end, this indeed seems to be default behaviour of the modern combobox control. The modern and classic control functionality may differ, not all scenarios are supported in the modern controls.

To achieve your current requirement you may want to opt for the classic combobox instead (single-select).

From a UI/UX standpoint I think arguments both for and against saving / not resetting the search text can be made. You can provide feedback on the controls & offer suggestions within the following forum thread.

@nleuck_101 funnily enough I have followed the same tutorial - I used the classic combo box and it gave me the exact behavior you want.
and then clicked off:

So I think this is exactly what you want! It worked the same when following his tutorial and it did not really change anything, except it gives you the behavior that you are looking for.

Hello @developingteal and @LaurensM

I recently found this code and was trying to use it with the modern combo box but I'm getting an error. The error is "Incompatible type. The item you are trying to put into a record has a type that is not compatible with the record." Any ideas on how to solve this before I switch to the classic combo box? Thanks!

Nevermind I found my error. I was missing the .Selected on the last part of my code. Still didn't work. It looks like I'll have to use the classic combo box. Very frustrating 🙄

I have a new problem. I switched to the classic combo box but if I want to add a new record and I select from the dropdown this is what I see.
But the data is there for the other records but not when I want to enter a new one it's not listing the values. Thoughts?

Also when I add the classic combo box, data in another field starts to randomly get removed and I have to go back to SharePoint and enter it in again. Are you not able to mix modern controls with classic? Power Apps is beyond frustrating 🤬

if you are following the video from reza then it never was intended to be able to add one straight from the combo box. You are going to have to make a new row button which will make a blank box and then you can select a value. You should be able to mix modern and classic, make sure you have the correct data sources/ streams selected.
