I am using data verse along with some connectors to pull in and populate tables from an external source to use for a model driven power app. I am struggling to understand how to show the available records that correspond/relate to the main tables. Below is an image of two of my tables.

The clients table is one I have populated and created within Dataverse.

The sales table is one that is connected to an external connection.

I want to create a relationship between the two tables using the common column of "Client Name" so when I am in a client name form, I can show a 'sub grid' of the related 'sales' titles and amounts that relate to that 'client name'. I have tried using keys, lookups, and different relationship types but every time the sales sub grid is blank UNLESS I go in and browse the sales table from within the form and link it manually every time.

Isn't there a way to just show the related sales records? Similar to how one would create a relationship and be able to see related records in something like Power BI but within a Model Driven App sub grid?

In Dataverse, the tables are related to each other by the Primary Column which is the GUID column. If the client table is the custom table that you created in Dataverse, it will have the primary unique identifier column Client (xyz_clientid). If you want to create a lookup related to your Client table (1:N relationship), the lookup column in the child table will be linked to the primary unique identifier column Client (xyz_clientid) and you cannot link it to the text column "Client Name".

Similarly, if the sales table is one that is connected to an external connection (virtual table), you need to set up a virtual table relationship (as mentioned in this documentation) by creating a relationship and lookup to the Client (primary GUID) column. You cannot create a relationship with the "Client Name" column and your sales table from the external source needs to contain the GUID value of the Client to have a proper relationship with the Client native table in Dataverse.
