Disable Read-Only Restriction for Sensitivity Column in SharePoint Grid View

Hi everyone,

In a SharePoint document library, we have the Sensitivity column enabled. When users try to update metadata using Grid View (Quick Edit), the Sensitivity column shows as:

“This cell is read-only"

if it’s possible to switch off or bypass this Read-Only restriction for the Sensitivity column, at least when editing in Grid View.

Is there any way to configure this in SharePoint or Microsoft 365 compliance settings so that metadata can still be edited, while the Sensitivity column remains applied?

Any guidance, suggestions, or workarounds would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi @asit00,

As far as I know this by design. Other columns which have the same behaviour are retention label and calculated column type of columns. Via the information panel you should be able to set the value for an individual item.

You should be able to set it in bulk via the Graph API or via (PowerShell) scripting though as well, that could be a workaround.

    Happy to help out 😁
