Trigger with SharePoint: When a contenu type is created

Hi everyone,

I’m working with a SharePoint document library that uses a custom Content Type based on a Word template.

I’m trying to trigger a Power Automate flow when a new document is created using this Content Type, but neither of these triggers seem to work:

  • When a file is created (properties only)
  • When an item is created

It looks like SharePoint doesn’t detect the creation event when it’s coming from a Content Type template.

Has anyone found a workaround or a reliable way to trigger a flow when a document is created from a Content Type?

Thanks in advance!

    Have you inspected the outputs of the trigger action?

    In my experience the When a file is created (properties only) should return the content-type of newly created document.

    It should return the {ContentType} property in the body which includes nested Id and Name properties.

    Below is an example, if that helps?

    1. Dynamic content fields

    2. Trigger condition expression where I check for the Content-Type name, in my example 'Document with AB'

    @equals(triggerOutputs()?['body/{ContentType}/Name'], 'Document with AB')

    Happy to help out 😁

    This is a great suggestion!
    At the moment, though, it looks like the content type can’t be found or isn’t available in the current options.
    I’ll take a closer look to see what exactly isn’t working.
