yes there are multiple options to do this:

    1. legacy data import--go to advanced settings--data management--data import and import your data.

    2. Immersive Excel: go to a view for the desired entity, click export to excel--export to Excel online. this opens an in-line excel online file and you can paste your data into there and save.

    3. the CDS get data button--go to make.powerapps.com, click data, go to entity, click get data button and select Excel as source.

there is also a new Excel add-in that allows you to save your data to CDS directly from Excel. See https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/cds-for-apps-excel-importexport/.

My favorite is #1--it give you the most flexibility to map lookup fields and it allows you to import multiple files at the same time if you put them in a zip file. Doesn't support xlsx, but does csv, xls, or xml spreadsheet format.

Yes, like @jlindstrom  said. A very intuitive way to do it to a specific entity is like the following image , Data > Entities > Your Entity > Get data > Excel or Get data (and then you can choose from a list including excel to search for excel files withtin your current environment )

can it possibly be done with a power app upload form?

absolutely--create a power app form that uploads the file to OneDrive, then have a flow import the data. Or you could also put it in a cds attachment, but the excel capabilities of power automate are greater when the file is in OneDrive.

You could also leverage the data import programatically, but this is going to require a plugin

also, if you are asking if you can import from within your model driven app without going to advanced settings, the answer is yes. From the view there is an import from excel button. It may be in the more options under the button on the far right.

so this happens if the format of your input is not right--for example, if your data is xlsx. Try CSV and also take out any unneeded columns. There could be something wrong in your file.

If you got the excel from a template there might be some hidden columns or metadata, it happened once with me. I created a new excel file and pasted the data and it worked.
