Unable to connect to machines by sign in or by username & password

I am unable to connect to either my laptop machine or to a virtual machine using the microsoft account sign in or username & password methods. Is something broken?

I had some desktop flows I could trigger from the cloud on my laptop using my microsoft account credentials. But when I was recently prompted to refresh the connections, I got the same insufficient privileges error as above.
Now I am also trying to set up a workflow on a virtual machine following this guide (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r5sJpqY73k) but that is also not working even with the direct domain/username & password entries.

What is wrong?

    So even though the service account I tried to use for the Atteneded sign-in has permissions to run bots/machines, the account I was logged into while editing the cloud flow did not. So it looks like both the account one is creating/editing flows from and the account credentials used while creating the Desktop flow connection need to have Desktop Flow Machine User / Environment Maker security roles.
