Creating a Custom Connector to on-premises API via data gateway requires 'Admin' permission to data gateway

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to create a Custom Connector for my organization to use that would connect to our on-premises API service via the Data Gateway. I was able to create the custom connector to connect was able to retrieve data successfully. Unfortunately, when I share the custom connector with others, when setting up the connection to the custom connector the data gateway won't show up (just for this connection) unless the user have 'Admin' access to the data gateway.

To ensure the data gateway is working, we made sure other connectors like HTTP with Azure AD connection works with on-premises API service via data gateway works.

We first tried to grant 'Can use' access to the data gateway, it didn't work. Changed it to 'Can use + share', still didn't work. Finally granted 'Admin' access to the data gateway, and it finally showed up. We don't want to grant 'Admin' access to everyone as we typically only grant 'Can use', or 'Can use + share'.

Does anyone else know why we need to grant 'Admin' access to the data gateway?

Thanks,

I'm running into this same issue. Did you ever find a resolution?

Microsoft is aware of this limitation, and they still have not done anything about it. We've been pestering them for two years now. Whoever is in product is putting security below other features in the platform.

I am also having this issue.  Has Microsoft solved this problem yet?  A custom connector should be able to use the data gateway without granting users Admin access, this is ridiculous
