Hello,
We have a two related table - Project (parent) and Activity (child). Activity as a lookup column to Project. When users create a new Activity item, the Project column is locked and they cannot choose anything. It is of course editable by developers or administrators so I wonder if this is caused by something around roles and permissions. The users have create/read/edit/delete access to the both Project and Activity tables. They can save and edit the Activity data as long as they don't select the look up column. Am I missing anything?
I believe you are missing the ‘Append’ and ‘Append To’ permissions. This is what would give you the ability to associate the tables together. Take a look at this article for a good overview and examples:
