Sharing Model Driven App - 'SubmitRoleAssignmentError: [object Object]'

Hi everyone,

I have a Model Driven App which I am trying to share. I have selected the App, then on the drop down on the right hand side, I see and select the custom Security Role.

When clicking the 'Share' button, it momentarily says "Sharing the App was successful" with a green banner, and then immediately shows the error "SubmitRoleAssignmentError: [object Object]". Screenshot below. This error is particularly unhelpful as there is nothing useful in the error message text to evaluate what the issue could be.

I have tried waiting several days so this is not a temporary issue.

The Security Role I am trying to share with has access to some but not all Tables that are represented in the Model Driven App but I don't think that should be an issue. The Security Role is backed by a Team in Power Platform Admin Centre, which is connected to an Entra Security Group, which is populated with Owners and Members.

Any insight in to this would be very much appreciated, thank you!

Hi @11manish,

Thanks for your pointer on using the Development tools. I used the errors in there in conjunction with Copilot which gave a clue on the source of the issue.

For anyone reading this thread in the future, the issue was that the App was in a Managed Environment, and the custom Security Role I wanted to share with it would not append since the App could not be "changed". Instead the Security Role had to be shared with the App in the 'Dev' (unmanaged) environment before it was subjected to ALM through to the managed ('Test') Environment.

So the process for the future is:

1. Share the Custom Security Role with the App in the unmanaged environment (e.g. Dev).

2. Run ALM.

3. In the managed environment (e.g. Test), observe that the Security Role shared with the App in step 1 remains appended to the App in the Share tray. It should now be possible to share with the Entra Security Groups, which themselves have the same security group associated (via PPAC).
