issue with 'Key Value' in 'Update a row'

Hello,

I can't seem to figure how to use the 'Key Value' box. What am I supposed to type in this?

Capture00.PNG

Here's the file it is referring to:

Capture0.PNG

The cells A7 and E7 (not on the picture) are supposed to be modified so I configured an 'Update a row' step.

I tried to type 'Full name + user ID', it didn't work. I tried to type '1' (because it's the first row in the table), it didn't work.

What must I do, please?

Here's the error message:

Capture000.PNG

So how am I supposed to do, please?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi @paulb4 ,

Which column is the one that you want to update in the "Update a row" action?

If you use the "Update a row" action, you should have a Key column with a unique value so you could identify the row and update item, so you couldn't update the Key column when you use the action.

You could refer to my screenshot below to create the flow and flow would update the Next Due date column for the row which's Request_number column is equal to "a".

And the Key column is responsible, the value in the responsible column in all the rows in the table should be unique.

    Best regards,

    Alice

Re: issue with 'Key Value' in 'Update a row'

    Hello and thank you,

I'm sorry I don't manage to make it work.

My file has 7 columns and I need to modify 2 of them: first one (column A) with a value (which is an answer of the initial Form) and fifth one (column E) (which is another answer of the form).

    My columns are named:

    A

Full name + memo ID (has to be modified)

    B

    Column 2

    C

    Company (empty cell)

    D

Org. unit (cell contains data but mustn't be modified)

    E

Job title (has to be modified)

    F

Content (cell contains data but mustn't be modified)

    G

Solution (cell contains data but mustn't be modified)

My flow is built as follow:

    Capture111.PNG

I don't pretend my flow is built correctly though.

I'm not an expert of all of that.

I hope @v-alzhan-msft  you'll answer and you'll be able to help me more.

    Thank you in advance.

Re: issue with 'Key Value' in 'Update a row'

    Hello @paulb4

From your description of what you are doing - then your Excel file does not have any rows, only the header row, correct?

If that is correct, then you should not update row but add row to a table instead.

    Kind regards, John

Re: issue with 'Key Value' in 'Update a row'

    Hi @JohnAageAnderse ,

Usually when someone answer on this forum, if you ask a question after, s/he never answer back so I hope you'll answer me once again because I still didn't succeed.

    Thank you for your time,

I tried to modify and add a row, it seems to be working.

But then I need to send the modified file to someone and then to delete the created row. That way the file is still empty for the next use (which will be the same kind).

It sends me the empty file instead of the modify one.

And I don't think the Delete row works. It's still the Key Value which I don"t understand, I think.

And my file is in my OneDrive, is it a problem? Do I have to put it in a SharePoint?

    Here's my flow:

    Captur.PNG

Do you need something else? Do you need to see a specific step in more details?

Thank you, hope you'll answer @JohnAageAnderse

    Or anyone else!!!!

    🙂

Re: issue with 'Key Value' in 'Update a row'

    Hello @paulb4

I know that working with Excel in flow is a pain - the file may become locked and it will take some time before it is released.

Anyway, my own trials shows that after you have updated the table in the Excel file, you have to wait a little - I used 15 seconds, but it may differ.

So add a Delay action after your final update and see if it helps.

    Kind regards, John

    Hi @paulb4 ,

I suggest that you could share the full screenshot of the flow and explain which part don't work, share the run history and error message so we could better understand the issue and provided the workaround.

    Best regards,

Re: issue with 'Key Value' in 'Update a row'

If you're having difficulty using the actions in a flow to modify a file, you might want to use the Run script action to send the data to the workbook, then use an Office Script to modify it.  If you have a lot of rows to update, collect all the data then send it at once to avoid having waits between each change to the file.
