Extract text with Windows OCR Engine Issue

Hi,

This seemed to work fine and now intermittently works. The flow hangs up at "Extract text with OCR" when using the Windows OCR engine. The Tesseract engine will work consistently but the results are not very accurate. When the Windows Engine works the results are spot on. Any idea on how to troubleshoot this issue?

Hi Michael,

I just tried the Windows OCR engine on one of the sample image files with text.

It did not have any problems.

This will obviously not mean that the action works fine :).

So it is hard to say why it gets stuck on this action for your particular file.

I'm sure your file would be a sensitive one and you won't be able to share it. But if you are then I can give it a try.

Also check for any errors log messages. Perhaps raising a ticket with support could be of any help.

Hi,

I found a work around that seems to work reliably. I inserted a "Display Message" step with a 1 sec timeout and now the OCR step works fine. I tried just wait step of 1 sec and it would still hang at OCR step. I'll upload my image so you can give it a try.

Did not face any issues without adding a timeout or wait stage.

Adding a wait is always a good practice.

Good to hear that it is working out for you now.

Thank you. When I run my flow I have to have a dialog step before the OCR step. I have tried wait steps of various times and the Windows OCR step hangs. It looks like this is specific to my case.

Temp disable the dialog step, priority is getting the Ocr text.
Are you getting the ocr output like VJR explained ?

Start the flow from extracting the text, not at the start of the flow...

I am unable to start flow from Extract Text step. I think its is because I have that step in a For Loop. I will have to create a new flow and replicate my issue.

You could just do a quick subflow.
Read a single file, no loops / getting files in folder etc, just a single file.
