Identifying long running flows - Exceptions

Is it possible to check, using logs or any other mechanism, if a PAD is executing a step for a long time when it shouldn't be doing it?

For example, we faced an issue where a PAD flow was stuck at an action - it wasn't an error, the process was just stuck and did not move ahead. The system was locked and no other flow was executed for hours until we manually entered the server to stop it. There was no error, even after stopping the robot, the logs say that the status is 'Cancelled'.

In such scenarios, where we know the process shouldn't be running for hours, is there any monitoring (inbuilt or custom) that can be implemented to identify such processes and maybe shoot out an email? Since the machine is locked by the process, another process cannot login to check.

Yes, Power Automate Desktop (PAD) does provide mechanisms to monitor the execution of your flows.Here is how it is.

From the Option Desktop Flow Activity from make.powerautomate.com as shown in the below.There you will get each detail of your run.

Hi VishnuReddy1997,

This would require a manual intervention of checking whether a flow has been running for a long time. Is there a mechanism to automate this? Can we get these details from a table, for example?

Hello,

You could build a logic over on block exception action for the block of scripts, this logic can be based on the time duration, if the block didn't complete within the time period, you can send an exception found value as a variable.

Hi,

Power Automate default timeout for queue 6 hours similar server off as well same it may wait till that time, then automatically throw timeout or any other exception msg will occur.

On what action did the PAD flow get stuck on?

Do you have Action Timeout in your PAD?

PT1H means time out in 1 hour.

Some actions in PAD like wait for -actions have "Fail with timeout error" which you can set so if the UI element does not load for set amount of time the flow will fail.
