Use a service principal to connect to service bus

Should it be possible to authenticate to a service bus using a service principal? Using 'Microsoft Entra ID Integrated' works with a service account, but when I add a service principal and give SB Owner, Receiver and Sender roles I can't connect, just wondering if i'm missing something?
