Hi All,

We are looking to upload file to Dataverse Table and use this Dataverse Table as a knowledge source to Microsoft Copilot agent.

Just want to know does Copilot agent has the capability of getting the details of contents in the file uploaded to Dataverse by giving correct prompts.

Please suggest if this is technically feasibile.

Regards.
Avinash.

    Yes, this is technically feasible.

Microsoft Copilot Studio now supports using Dataverse tables with File columns as a knowledge source.

This means if you upload a file (like a .docx or .txt) to a File column in Dataverse, the Copilot agent can read and respond based on the content inside that file - as long as it's set up correctly (I had some problems in the beginning).

    These are my tips:
    1. Enable Dataverse Search
Make sure Dataverse Search is turned on for your environment in the Power Platform Admin Center.
    2. Use a proper File column
Use a File-type column on your table
    3. Add the File column to the Quick Find View (Quick Find Active [Table name])
Go to the table’s Quick Find View and add the File column to the View Columns. This step is critical, otherwise the file content won’t be indexed.
    4. Use supported file types
Stick to .docx, .txt, or PDFs with actual text (not scanned images). Image content and tables are not searchable yet. I use simple Word document.
    5. Wait for indexing
Sometimes it takes a few minutes (or longer) before the content becomes searchable. If it doesn’t work right away, give it a bit of time.

If this answers your question, please mark it as accepted.

Thank you for your response to this post.

I have enabled the Dataverse search in the power platform environment, and I have tried uploading Docx and text files to Dataverse as knowledge source and given it a try.

I have done all the steps you have mentioned but Copilot agent is unable to read the contents of Docx and text files.

    Regards.
    Avinash.
