Hi
Is there an option to trigger a flow only when a specific list item column changes from one specific value to another specific value?
I saw this old post that suggests I create 2 columns . isn't there a simpler solution since 2016?

You can use a regular when an item is modified trigger and then set a trigger condition to only fire the flow when it changes to the specified value. Here's a blog post on how to use trigger conditions.
