I had the same idea but Microsoft excludes a change of the trigger because otherwise it leads to problems:

So it is really necessary to understand how this works technically in the background although the trigger criterion is not fulfilled. Do you have an idea how to find out?
That is a good question, I wonder if in fact, since its being created it consider the value changing.
What you could do, is add a Condition on the Trigger NOT to fire if that field value is null.
Then it would stop doing it. But then it may not specifically trigger ever either..
