How to get Connection References when add existing flows to a solution

I'm getting this below which states that I should be using a connection reference instead of a connection.

However, as I am adding these flows which have already been built to my solution, when I go to edit the connection on an action I am not being given the choice to edit or add a connection reference.

How do I fix this so that I can add connection references?

Have you tried to add the connection reference manually inside the solution and reload the flow and try it again?

I have tried creating a connection reference inside the solution as can be seen below:
However, when I go to select a connection in the flow action, the option does not appear:
Unfortunately this does not seem to be a work around.

My bad, I never actually clicked on the link in the warning back which when pressed automatically deleted all the connections and lets you choose connection references:
