Task Completed by User - defaulting to my name instead of user who completed task

Hi all,

 

I'm pretty new to this and not really sure I fully understand it all so apologies if this is a really simple question!

I have created a flow to send a teams message to a channel when a talk in that channel's ToDo has been completed. It's working great apart from the fact that it is posting as 'My Name via Workflows' instead of the name of the person who has actually completed the task.

Please can you help to explain what steps I need to add in to make the post from the user instead of me via workflow?

 

The filter below is to rename the Bucket ID so it shows in the post message - this is working fine.

    Look at the dynamic outputs for the steps before the email and see if that is available. If you don't see it, look at the raw output of the first 4 steps of your Flow and see if there is an output showing the name or email of the person completing the notification. If there is, you can insert that dynamic output into your email body.

    No worries, thank you! Do you know if there is a way to put the name of the person who completed the task in the body of the notification? There are multiple people in the team so I can't put one specific name, I need to put the name of the person who completed the task - an alternative would be who the task was assigned to?

    I don't know of a way to do what you're wanting. Suggest you put the name of the responsible person into the body of the notification. If you use a fairly anodyne name for the service account ("noreply", "teams_srv") users tend to ignore it. Sorry I couldn't come up with a more specific solution.

    Another advantage of a service account is that you can use it for other Flows as well. It can also be used in email notifications.

    Thanks for your response - however I'm not sure how that will assign the actual user who completed the task?
    There are 5 users in our team, I want the post to say the name of the person who completed the task. I hope that makes sense?

    You need to have (or create if you don't have) a service account that can be used to be the owner of that action. The service account will have to be made the co-owner of the Flow. then, the service account owner will go into the Flow editor and change the connection to the service account name.  

    The change connection is at the bottom of the Parameters window. Click the blue Change connection link to go there.
