Minimal license to access Planner Premium from Power Apps

We want to create a Power Apps that connect to those main sources:-

1) SharePoint

2) Premium Planner

now i know that connects Power Apps to Premium Planner will make the Power Apps as premium app, and users will need premium power apps license to access it. and also accessing Premium Planner will need atleast Planner Plan1. so what is the minimum license for those 3 groups of users:-

1) normal users will be accessing SharePoint lists only through the Power Apps

2) Admin users will be accessing SharePoint lists and Premium Planner through the Power Apps + Premium Planner through the Premium Planner UI.

3) Senior user will be accessing SharePoint lists and Premium Planner through the Power Apps only.

does Planner Plan1 is enough for Senior user? and does Power Apps Premium is enough for admins?

Thanks

The fundamental issue is  that if an app has a premium connection, then all users opening the app will be authenticated at login for all connections existing in the app and any Flows (unless the Run only user setting has been modified to a specific connection) connected to it. So essentially you cannot control usage/licensing within the app.

An alternative would be separate apps for the standard and premium licensing requirements.

I am not sure what you mean beyond what you asked initially. Any app with a premium connector (which then makes it a premium app) needs all users to have the appropriate licence to authenticate the connection/s. They simply will not be able to open it without this authentication.

    Hi John,

Hi, one more option to consider: 2 separate apps, a Standard app (SharePoint only) for normal users, and a Premium app (SharePoint + Premium Planner) for admin/senior users. This way normal users skip needing Power Apps Premium.

Or go with 1 app (option 2) and control access via user-level permissions inside it, simpler to manage, but then everyone needs Power Apps Premium, since the app-level premium designation applies to all users regardless of what they individually touch.

Also worth flagging: since Planner is Microsoft-native, you'll need SharePoint access set up too. And as mentioned before, anyone touching Premium Planner needs at least Plan 1, and for admins, Power Apps Premium alone won't cover native Planner UI access.
