Unexpected Error: Failed to Fetch

I have a set of flows that have been working ok for a couple of years. all of a sudden, they are all aborting on every step with this error and I'm unable to figure out what has gone wrong. I've recreated all the connections in the flow (it uses o365, sftp-ssh, and sharepoint file operations). even something simple like a set variable is failing. here's the start of it:

oddly,  i created a new flow with only an Initialize Variable in it. it fails in exactly the same way.

is there a way to get more detailed errors out of it?

it turns out that this was caused by the DuckDuckGo add-on in Chrome. disabling that causes this problem to go away.
