Manipulate Smartsheet data with Flow

Hope this may be the correct thread... but hi all! Wanted to see if anyone’s had some luck manipulating data from Smartsheet? In particular the trigger “when a sheet is updated”.

Using that trigger, along with “get a sheet”, yields an output with all Smartsheet sheet data on it in one (JSON?) object; includes column data and row data generated at the time of trigger.

Using that data I want Flow to create variables using the objects/parameters inside that output, so that I can display them in an Approval. I need to store the columns as variables to do that, but however I grab the data using expressions and definition language, I either end up with null values or just can’t pull the right data. The data is there in plain sight, I’m just no savvy with WDL enough to grab it properly yet

I can set up a sample sheet if anyone wants to see what I’m asking?

Thanks!

    Hi @trand86 ,

I think the alternative you could try is to use Send an email with option to create the approval process.

In this way, the HTML table generated by when a sheet is updated can be directly configured in Email body.

    Please take a try.

    Hi @v-bacao-msft

So I've given this a go, but the output and the setup is a little too broad - thank you for the suggestion though!

The email options for approve/reject or whatever options are chosen, aren't recorded anywhere like an actual approval flow. For example, in an Excel sheet I'm able to start a flow with a selected row, generate an approval and inside that approval in markdown format add in the columns from the row of what I need approving. If that then gets approved or rejected, it's recorded in Approval History. That then can also be added as a new row into another Excel sheet or book, so data can be centrally collected.

I wanted to use Smartsheet to trigger this due to the trigger options, and because my company is Smartsheet orientated.

I can get a lot of sheet information from Smartsheet and even parse as JSON, but can't seem to drill down to pick a row to evaluate for approval.
