Unexpected behavior "List rows present in a table" action

Hi all,

I have been struggling with importing Excel data in SharePoint the past week and noticed some strange behavior from the "List rows present in a table" action.

The first thing is that filters applied in Excel are also applied in Power Automate. I don't think this is "as designed", but I can be mistaken. Maybe this is new since you can now have personal and public filters/views. Can someone tell me if this is expected behavior?

The second thing is that one of my date columns shows a different date format when a filter is applied in Excel in comparison to when no filter is applied. Without filter, it gives me a serial notation (e.g. 45658) in Power Automate and without the filter it gives me ISO 8601 (e.g. 1899-12-30T00:00:00.000Z). BUT, another date column doesn't have this strange behavior, this one always gives me ISO 8601 (the Power Automate action setting is also set to ISO 8601). The date notation in Excel is for both date columns the same, The only difference is that the problematic column always has the first of January as day and month, only the year may differ for different records.

This is a sample of the output of the "List rows"-action without a filter applied in Excel:

Does anyone else have seen this behavior?

    Hi,

    • for the first behaviour- regarding filtered rows in table- i have tried it with having filtered table as input datasource, but it captures all the rows from rows irrespective of whether the filter is applied or not. Does in your case have you written any filter query which limits the number of rows to be taken out ?
    • For the date - as you have tried the power automate list rows in table settings as well which mostly have resolved the issues then. Also could you confirm that whether the columns are of datetime ?

    Hi,

    1) Filters applied in Excel tables won't apply when you grab the table with List rows present in a table natively.  If you want to filter, use filter query in the action directly.  But to answer your question, filters don't apply.
    2) Check all your columns that include dates/times and get make sure they are date columns.  I suspect one of your columns is not a date type.  So check the column that is returning the desired values and review the format in the other column and edit to match.

Thanks, Tom and Nived, for your answers!

It seems to be a bug. Both columns have the same date format.

I have indeed used a filter query in the power automate action, but this was not the problem. it didn't give me the records I expected.

I have resolved the issue by removing the filter in Excel and doing a different data conversion for the date columns.

Maybe this post will save others some time, if it's a bug.
