Opened Excel file is always read only

I've followed tips etc and managed to get PAD to open an Excel file on Sharepoint site, and run the macros within.

Problem is the file is always opened as read only even though it isn't. Unticked below and not set as read only on Sharepoint site. Because of this I can't save it.

Can anyone help?

Background - The file is linked to 3 other Excel files. Macros are used to import, cleanse, create pivot tables and graphs. I manually run this but would like to ideally schedule it for absences etc.

I don't know enough about PAD to perform the work that the macros do.

Just wondering how you are opening the file path which is in sharepoint via launch excel, seems to be confusion for me ?

You may want to launch it via VBscript or PowerShell and then use Attach to running Excel instead. You can pass parameters to the script to close any possible warnings and also make sure that the file is not read only.

I don't know anything about VBscript or Powershell so might have to stick to manually opening file and running macros 🙂

As far as I could find on the web, it's not possible for Desktop version to open the file in edit mode.
As a workaround I changed the Excel VB to create a new file from a sheet with all the data I needed and saved to Sharepoint location then closed, works a treat.
Might be helpful to others without experience in VB or Powershell.
