Copy part of a file name to another column

Hi,

I'm completely new to Power Automate. I've managed to build a small flow, which sends out an e-mail if a specific column is changed and I see the vast possibilities PA offers.

Now I need to copy part of a name of a file to another column, when a file is uploaded.  As "easy" as the first task was, this is way too complicated for me, and I have no idea how to achieve this. The name is separated by underscores, which makes it pretty easy to work with and I need the part of the name, which is between the 1st and 2nd underscore.
To complicate masters: the environment I'm working in seems to be very sluggish, as PA often doesn't find the libraries of a given SP and same goes for other functions.
That aside, where can I find how to build this flow or flows in general. I love to learn 🙂

Best,
Edward

    Hello @Edward_Hyde

You can split the name and get the second part using this expression :

    split(<ReplaceYourNameHere>,'-')[1]

Exemple of the final results :

Once you store the value in a Compose action or a variable, you can update the sharepoint item with the new retrieved value

    Hope this helps

@abouchaalaBAIT  So, I'm not sure, why automate adds the "for each" part to some of the functions.

But this seems to cause an error, which I have no idea how to handle.

@Edward_Hyde can you screenshot all the workflow from the beginning please ?

try to delete recently added action, save and open with classical designer, add them again and test.

@abouchaalaBAIT I just started from the beginning. Worked like a charm. Thank you very much. Just to satisfy my curiosity: is this a known bug within the new composer/designer?

it's not a bug but you have to make sure to activate the split On inside the trigger settings, now you know 🙂
