I'm trying to setup an MS form that has a question for "who submitted this request", where my employee will enter the users email address or first name, last name. I'm wondering if power automate can find that user within outlook and send an email to their leader? I have the form built and have an email connector built i'm just curious how i could go about having the direct leader be added to the email without having another line of questioning within the form itself? Is this doable?
sorry it was i who misunderstood this actually does exactly what i was looking for 🙂 thank you so much!
Hi @jdash20,
Just to double check. What do you mean with leader and can you share a screenshot where in Outlook you can find this information?
I assumed you were talking about somebody's manager. Maybe that is the part I misunderstood?
In my last two replies I was retrieving the manager of the employees email address (provided in the question of the MS Forms form).
thanks, im probably not explaining it right so i apologize haha. in a nutshell my employees are filling out these forms when a workorder is built incorrectly. As part of the form we are asking them to provide the employees email address who built this order incorrectly. Currently power automate is sending an email out based on the email address provided.
I was hoping power automate could also find the email address that was provided and somehow provide that persons leaders email address so that we can add it to that email as well. I hope that makes more sense, sorry.
Hi @jdash20,
Typically this type of information is centrally managed in Entra Id (formerly known as Azure Active Directory) and applications/services like Outlook and Microsoft 365 make use of the same information source.
So, I am not entirely sure why you want to check this in Outlook instead? Unless this are personal contacts which are managed manually? 😀
Btw, you can also use your own question in that same Get Manager (v2) action.
But if it helps, below is an example which uses the Get Contacts (v2) action instead.
Thanks for the info but i was thinking more so if an answer provided within the form is in the form of an email address, is there a way to use that data to find that email address within outlook and provide their leaders email address?
Hi @jdash20,
Normally this information is stored in the profile of a person/Entra Id. Microsoft Forms also knows who submitted the form, unless you have configured it to be an anonymous form (Anyone can respond in the settings).
If it is not an anonymous form you can use the Responder's Email field in a Get Manager (v2) action.
Below is an example
