OneDrive for Business Action: Find files in folder by path is broken

Posted on by
Recently, the Find files in folder by path action for OneDrive for Business is broken.

1. When selecting the folder path using the "Open Folder" icon, you are required to select a file, you cannot select a folder to autofill the folder path. You can manually type the folder path or select a file, if one exists, in the folder and remove the file name from the textbox.

2. When searching using the OneDriveSearch, your search query will return an excessive amount of additional files. If you have a bunch of files with the same name but a number incrementing at the end such as "TestFile_6.09.25_1,TestFile_6.09.25_2,TestFile_6.09.25_3, etc" and you also have other files such as "TestFile_6.08.25_1,TestFile_6.07.25_1, TestFile_6.06.25_1, etc." and then you use the Find files in folder by path action to search with the query of "TestFile_6.09.25_", you get a mix of files that match and lots of files that do not match the same pattern such as "TestFile_6.09.25_1,TestFile_6.09.25_2,TestFile_6.09.25_3,TestFile_6.08.25_1,TestFile_6.07.25_1, TestFile_6.06.25_1". When doing the exact same search in OneDrive from the OneDrive Portal, the search returns only the matching files that start with "TestFile_6.09.25_".

This all used to work and recently stopped working around 6/6/2025.

Does anyone know a work around?

    Hi

I'm sorry you are experiencing this problem with the Find files in folder by path action. It does seem to be "broken" and you have to manually enter a path. There's a YouTube video from 4 years ago showing the exact same problem.

A possible work around could be to use Find files in folder?

You can use "Pattern Matching" to find files:

    Hope this helps.
