can someone explain the difference between the Status and Status Reason fields in Dataverse

In every Dataverse table, two fields are automatically added

- Status

- Status Reason

These are choice fields and can either be set to Active or Inactive.

What is the point of these 2 fields ?

Is there a way to change the Choices to other than the above defaults ?

I tried changing the Status field of a record from from Active to Inactive, but then could not change it back to Active.

If anyone can enlighten me on the purpose and how to use these fields i would be very grateful.

Regards

Dave

    Hi @daved3,

    In addition to the link from @a33ik, you'll want to understand Status Reason transitions.

    You'll want plan the different states your record can transition between so that you don't end up in a scenario where your status is stuck and can't move back.

    In custom tables, you can change only the Status Reason. Basically, the statecode in a custom table means only if that record is Active or Inactive. But you can manage many statuscode (the status reason) for these two values.
    An example, this about a record of an object you are sending to someone.
    State -> Active
    Status -> Ordered
    When you send the pack, the record will be:
    State -> Active
    Status -> Sent
    The pack now could arrive to the person. The record could become:
    State -> Inactive
    Status -> Received
