Extract image from PDF -> OCR pdf files

I know that PAD cannot extract the text using OCR directly from pdf files, which must be converted to image files for OCR. But when extracting images from pdf, the orientations of images are always wrong. Want to ask what should I do to solve this problem. Since the direction of images is wrong, then the OCR cannot read the images -> extract error.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @invisibleC

I think you can extract text from pdf directly , by making the PAD to open the pdf document and then use the OCR action with below settings to retrive the data

    Hope it helps !

    Hi,

No, actually according to previous posts regarding the OCR extraction, text cannot be extracted from PDF files (https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Power-Automate-Desktop/Scanned-PDF-to-OCR-Failed-to-extract-text-with-OCR-gt-System/m-p/1969457)

And my problem is after extracting images from pdf, the orientation of the image is unreadable by OCR action.

    But thanks again

It doesn't work when you try to use Extract text with OCR and provide a file as the input. When you do that, the file must be an image. But if you extract the text from the foreground window or the entire screen instead of a file, it would work, if you had your PDF file open on the screen.

So, you can use the Run application action and provide the path to the file to this action. This will open the PDF document in your default PDF viewer. And then you should be able to use Extract text with OCR to read the text.

If your PDF contains images of the text instead of actual text (this is very typical when you scan a document to produce the PDF), you can first convert the PDF to images (PNG) and then perform OCR on the images.

    Hey

You should be able to circumvent this problem now, as PAD supports extraction of text from PDF files.
